Pre-Marital Requirements and Process

We are humbled by your interest in seeking Living Water's guidance to equip you to have a healthy, life-long, Gospel-centered marriage. Statistics bear witness that couples who have pre-marital counseling and preparation have a significantly better chance at a successful marriage.

Therefore, we have established the following requirements for those who are seeking our assistance. We fully realize that these requirements are counter-cultural, however, they are in place to ensure that God is glorified and honored through the entire process.

Requirements:

  1. Applicants must be able to clearly articulate that they have repented of their sin, have received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior through faith, and are actively seeking to live God-honoring lives.

  2. Applicants must be covenant members and/or regular attendees of Living Water Community Church for a minimum of 6 months, or the immediate family member of such.

  3. Applicants must be committed to sexual purity from the initiation of pre-marital counseling until they are joined together on their wedding day.

  4. Applicants who are cohabitating will be required to live separate from the initiation of pre-marital counseling until they are joined together on their wedding day.

  5. We recognize the devastation that divorce has inflicted on men and women in our society and we are mindful that God's grace can bring healing and hope to those who have experienced divorce in the past. As such, while our greatest hope is for reconciliation, we realize that is not always possible and will entertain – on a case-by-case basis – remarriage by those who have experienced a divorce.

  6. There must be a minimum of six (6) months between the initiation of pre-marital counseling and the wedding day. This is done to ensure that there is enough time to complete the pre-marital counseling before the wedding.

Process:

  1. Please ensure that you have read and agree with the aforementioned requirements.

  2. Fill out the Pre-Marital Application and review the Pre-Marital Covenant which you will be required to sign after meeting with one of our pastors.

  3. After receiving the Pre-Marital Application, a member of the Living Water staff will contact you to set up a preliminary appointment with one of our pastors.

  4. During the pre-marital appointment, a member of our pastoral staff will determine our ability to successfully provide pre-marital counseling to you and, if requested, officiate your wedding.

  5. Once approved by the interviewing pastor, you will be given a link to the Prepare and Enrich Surveys (one for the bride and one for the groom). These surveys will provide the necessary data from which to conduct your Pre-Marital counseling.

  6. Upon completion of the Prepare and Enrich survey, you will be provided with the contact information for a Living Water mentoring couple who will guide you through the Pre-Marital counseling process. This process involves a total of six to eight meetings. These meetings typically are scheduled two to three weeks apart from one another.

  7. Upon successful completion of the Pre-Marital counseling process, you will meet with the officiating pastor to plan the details of your wedding ceremony. This meeting is typically one month before the wedding.

  8. Additionally, if you will be using Living Water's facilities for your wedding ceremony, you will be connected with Living Water's Wedding Liaison who will assist you in coordinating the setup and use of the facility for your wedding.

Please know that if at any time you, your mentoring couple, or the pastoral staff of Living Water has concerns regarding the long-term success of your future marriage, you or we have the right to suspend Living Water's involvement in your wedding ceremony at any time.
